OUR STORY
In May of 2004, ABcake was founded by Alice Rodriguez & Maria Garcia. Alice started back in the seventies learning to decorate cakes from her decorating teacher Mrs. Jimenez. However, after mastering her skills she soon learned that supplies were hard to come by. She resorted to buying supplies in small quantities from companies such as Wilton Bakery craft and sold them to other students and schools that offered cake decorating classes. Eventually, her efforts turned into a business and she was overwhelmed by request. This made her realize that her garage, which she used as a warehouse, was not big enough and leading her to lease her first building on the corner of Washington & Greenwood in the city of Montebello. With little business and advertisement experience, she found it difficult to pay rent and bring in sales.
Most of her business was by word of mouth however that was not enough and in turn, she was forced to close shop. Knowing that this was her passion, she tried again opening a new shop called Alice’s Cake & Candy supply in the city of Bell Gardens. Here she had much success but after years of working hard, she felt it was time to turn over the business to her daughter in law Beatrice Rodriguez and retire.
After a year of being retired her son Manuel came home from work one day and found her alone, sad. Alice grew bored and felt that she needed a purpose again, as a result her son suggested that they start another cake and candy supply business. This time, with the help of Manuel’s girlfriend Maria, they started AB Cake Decorating Supplies in East Los Angeles. Still struggling with finances they worked hard to bring in customers. They would drive around to bakeries, go door to door, stop by local shopping centers, hand out flyers and leave them on cars, anything they could to make their business known and creating what AB Cake Decorating & Supplies is today.
Now after all these years and seeing our hard work pay off at AB Cake Decorating & Supplies we are still thriving and growing each day. Here at AB Cake Decorating & Supplies we still believe in our family values. We strive to work hard for our customers, take the time to meet the needs of everyone and provide the best quality products. Alongside our growing business, we happily expanded online.
